New Welsh record

April 2017

A visit to Gower south Wales turned up a new Welsh species , the scarce coastal Springtail Mesentotoma dollfusi .

Living under rocks at the top of the shore , and only a few mm long , its easy to see why these animals are so under recorded , however , it highlights the diversity of beach strandlines and upper shore habitats .

The animals were found at the northern end of Rhossili beach , in a small corner of the beach where the dunes end and the rocky shore begins .
